I'll start with a leading question - how/where are you visualizing your data?

  • Hi Brandon. We use the GA platform for visualization. We build most of our reports using explorations, but I've talked to customers that are using Tabelau and Domo.

@Kyle Dugan I was really curious. I know a lot of folks are using BigQuery, but I haven't learned SQL yet so I've been using Looker Studio.

We have been having trouble getting synced segments to get any traction at all on Google Ads (Search). We have synced multiple segments (50k+ matched audience size) yet we have failed to deliver a single impression, click, conversion to any of these segment members. We have used these synced audiences as an observation audience and as the actual audience of a Google Search Ads, neither has delivered anything.

Everything on the integration side looks good, so I don't believe it's a problem with that. Has anyone had the same problem, or know a fix to this?

Hey Matt, It's not different than what people should be reporting on in GA already. The only difference is looking at this data through the lens of a specific segment. For me, the top 3 are: Conversions, Page Traffic, Page Engagement.

For reporting I recommend customers start with their ICP segment and build out a few other views based on their GTM strategy. Viewing segments built by company size, vertical, product and so on.

  • Hey @Andrew Krauss, sorry to hear you are having issues. To confirm, the 50k matched audience is what is showing up in your Google Ads audience manager under "Size: Search"?

@Kyle Dugan Yes, that's correct! Inside 6sense it was showing a higher estimated audience, but when it was matched by Google, it shrunk to roughly 55k. Thanks.

  • @Andrew Krauss It seems likely that it's too small of an audience and members haven't searched for the search terms this audience has been applied to. If possible, I would try to double that audience size and give it a few weeks to see if you get some traction.

We usually start at 100k and above or our segment syncs to Google Ads. Focusing on higher account segments, such as our ICP, which has around 250k plus audience size.

Do you have an updated list of the variables sent to the data layer? My buying stage variable is set up exactly as it was at my previous company, but it isn't sending information over. I also noticed that there isn't a buying stage variable available in the data layer when I utilize GTM's preview mode.

  • Hey @Brandon McBride. The list on the article here is still accurate. It sounds like their could be an issue with your integration setup. I'd recommend reaching out to your CSM to get a support ticket in and have someone take a look at that.

For example, here is our GA with buying stages included.
