Country vs. HQ Account Creation
In my experience as a Solutions Consultant, I’ve seen many different ways organizations structure their accounts to support their GTM strategies. Some organizations prioritize country-level hierarchies, while others consolidate everything under a single global HQ.
Understanding how 6sense approaches account identification and enrichment is key to aligning these nuances with your internal processes. Whether you’re focused on keeping your database fresh, cleaning up existing records, or ensuring your systems are populated with verified, up-to-date information, enrichment is a cornerstone of any successful GTM motion.
Here are a couple of ways we can help - whether you want country-level accounts or prefer working from a global HQ record.
Country-Level Account Identification
At 6sense, accurate account matching is critical to delivering reliable insights and driving meaningful engagement. To achieve this, we leverage domain, country, and name to create a single source of truth in our Master Company Database.
Here’s how each attribute plays a role in matching:
- Domain as the Primary Identifier
- A company’s web domain is the most unique and stable attribute for identification. It helps us distinguish between organizations even when names are similar (e.g., “Acme Inc.” in different industries).
- Country for Regional Accuracy
- Many companies operate globally under the same domain but have separate regional entities. Including country ensures that insights and engagement strategies align with the correct geographic market.
- Name for Context and Validation
- Company names provide an additional layer of verification. This helps confirm matches when domains are shared (e.g., parent companies and subsidiaries) or when domain information is incomplete.
- HQ Location as a Key Attribute
- We prioritize HQ location in account records to ensure consistency. This means the primary account in 6sense reflects the company’s global headquarters, even if there are multiple regional offices.
What Does Country-Level Account Creation Mean?
- 6sense supports country-level account creation to help organizations accurately represent global companies that operate in multiple regions.
- Instead of having one global account record, you can create separate account records for each country where the company operates.
- Each country-level account shares the same parent domain but includes its own country-level data, allowing for regional segmentation, sales alerts, and reporting.
Why We Do This
- Regional Targeting: Many companies have different buying teams, budgets, and strategies by country. Country-level accounts allow you to tailor engagement to local decision-makers.
- Accurate Insights: Intent signals and buying stages can vary by region. This setup ensures you see the right signals for the right market.
- Operational Alignment: Sales and marketing teams often work by territory. Country-level accounts make it easier to assign ownership and measure performance by region
What If Country-Level Account Matching Isn’t Aligned with My Org?
For customers who prefer working off a single HQ record in CRM, here are some best practices to minimize duplicate creation:
- Decision Logic in Data Workflows
- Use decision logic for Is Global Headquarters = true.
- For example, in a 6QA segment that includes all qualifying country-level accounts, this logic ensures only the HQ account is included for account creation.

- Custom Match Rules
- Provides full control over how 6sense accounts are matched to existing CRM records.
- Define which 6sense Account Field and CRM Account Field act as unique identifiers (e.g., Website, Account Name).
- Example: If an account already exists in CRM with the same website domain, a new country-level duplicate will not be created.

Final Thoughts
Accurate data is the foundation for delivering reliable insights and driving meaningful engagement.
- Better Data Quality: Your teams can trust that the account hierarchy is accurate.
- Simplified Targeting: Focus on the right entity without worrying about mismatched regions.
- Enhanced Reporting: Roll up performance and insights to the global level when needed.
Hope this helps in your enrichment endeavors!
